1990 – THE MOOMIN MOVIE ERA
After her round-the-world trip in the 1970s, Tove made a second visit to Japan in 1990. A new Moomin boom had inspired another film. The Japanese publisher believed that the Moomins’ popularity was due to the lost sense of togetherness being experienced by broken families: the Moomin family offered a rewarding combination of freedom and safety. The Moomin animations of the 1990s sparked off a vast new wave of popularity all across the world, but especially in Finland and Japan.
